Buying casual shoes worn by someone else
Casual shoes are the most forgiving category to buy used, because almost all of their wear is cosmetic and almost none of it affects how they perform. They are worn for short periods on flat ground, so soles and midsoles rarely reach their limit before the owner moves on.
Concentrate on the things that do not come back: sole separation at the toe, a heel counter that has folded, and lining worn through inside the heel. Marks on the upper, faded colour and creasing are all normal and are what makes the price.
How condition is graded
Four grades, no overlap between the bands:
The grade is shorthand for what the pictures already show. If you are new to buying pre-owned footwear, our guide to it covers the grades and how to tell an authentic pair from a fake.
Finding your size
Stock runs deepest around EU 41, EU 44, EU 45. Our conversion chart and calculator translates between EU, UK, PK, USA and centimetres. Makers disagree with one another, though: a Nike EU 42 is stamped UK 7.5 where an Adidas EU 42 is stamped UK 8, so read how brands compare before crossing between them.
Delivery, payment and returns
