How to Check if Asics Shoes Are Original
Asics is a running brand first, and that shapes where counterfeits fail. The details that matter are structural — the crossing stripes and the gel unit — because those are engineering features rather than decoration, and they are expensive to reproduce properly.

Where the stripes cross is the weak point
The crossed bands on the side of an Asics are stitched or welded panels, not printed graphics. On a genuine pair the two bands meet at a clean intersection, the stitching runs at a consistent distance from each edge, and the angle of the crossing is identical on both shoes.
Fakes are usually acceptable along the straight runs and go wrong at the junction: bunched stitching, a slightly different crossing angle between left and right, or one band overlapping the other by an amount that does not match the manufacturer's images. Open the model on Asics' own site and compare the crossing point specifically.
The GEL unit
Visible gel should look like a solid, not a bubble
On models with an exposed GEL window in the heel or forefoot, the material should appear dense and evenly coloured, sitting flush in its housing. Genuine GEL is a firm silicone-like material.
Counterfeits often substitute a hollow plastic insert or coloured resin, which reads as glassier and sometimes shows an air gap at the edge of the window. Press it: real GEL gives slightly and returns. A hollow imitation feels rigid.
Note that many Asics models have internal GEL with no window at all, so its absence on the outside is not a signal — check what that specific model is supposed to have.
Labels and codes
The model code on the tongue label
Asics prints an article number on the label inside the tongue, typically in a format beginning with digits and letters such as 1011B. Search it. As with any brand, it should return the model and colourway you are holding, and this works whether or not the shoe still has its box.
The printing itself should be crisp with even character spacing. Asics labels tend to carry a good deal of small text, which gives counterfeits more chances to be inconsistent — scan the whole label rather than just the size.
What wear does to an Asics
Asics running shoes are bought to be run in, so second-hand pairs frequently show genuine mileage: compressed midsole, smoothed outsole at the heel, a flattened sockliner.
